 History

 

Opportunity Centre Clubhouse (OCC) opened its doors in September, 2002. We are located in a small Victorian town in central PA in a nineteenth century building that began as a blacksmith shop. We have served over 200 members and have a current active membership of approximately 50. In 2007, we earned our first three-year ICCD certification. We are licensed by OMHSAS and work with a managed care agency. 2009 has been a big year for us with the retirement of our long-time Director and the hiring of a new Director. This year we were able to send three people to our first ICCD seminar in St. Pete’s Beach and are currently preparing for our next certification visit which will take place in April, 2010.  

 

Clubhouse Community

 

OCC is open from 8AM – 4 PM Monday through Friday for the work-ordered day. Social activities are held Thursday evenings and one Saturday each month as well as on holidays. A Celebrations Dinner is held the last Thursday of each month. We have two work units – kitchen and clerical - where members and staff share their skills and talents. Many members are employed independently or supported, however TEP jobs have taken a hit from the economic crunch. Each May OCC hosts a Candlelight Vigil in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month.

 

 

Directions 

From Beaver Stadium (PSU), take I-99 North to exit 78B. Merge onto Route 150 and follow down the hill into Bellefonte. After the second light, cross the railroad tracks and take a slight right onto Stoney Batter (hill). Turn left onto Spring Street at the stop sign and right onto Bishop Street at the Dollar General. Take a left at the first alley (Cedar Lane) beside the Undine Fire Company and across from St. John’s Catholic Church.
